"John Taylor" Print

  • This is a 1914 mezzotint print that has been printed in colors and is signed by artist and engraver Will Henderson after the 1820s original painting by Sir John Watson Gordon and Henry Raeburn. It is believed that Raeburn started the painting but that Gordon finished it sometime around 1825. This 1st edition was printed by Vicars Brothers, 12 Old Bond Street, London and executed in 1914, signed by Henderson in pencil, in the lower right hand corner. The subject is John Taylor, Captain of the Honourable Company of the Edinburgh Golfers – a number of times between 1807 and 1825. This is the earliest engraving of this famous painting – having never been produced as a print prior to 1914.
